Abstract :
This paper presents a study of in-service QoS monitoring of multiple heterogeneous traffic streams, for the purpose of optimal bandwidth partitioning in an ATM-like network. The problems are essentially threefold: firstly, a limited quantity of monitor-data must be used to derive a reliable and accurate "belief" about user-data QoS. Secondly, the effects of interaction between monitor- and user-data must either be eliminated or accounted for in subsequent calculations. Thirdly, the distortion introduced by variable bit-rate traffic profiles must also be corrected. Solutions to all these three problems are described and demonstrated by means of computer simulation.
