Abstract :
The Internet is growing to play a core role in people´s daily lives. Network traffic control and QoS guarantees are highly demanded in multiservice network´s performance; this can only be achieved by measuring and analyzing network traffic. This paper describes how software based on the Winpcap library has been developed and used to measure the most popular Internet application, World Wide Web (WWW) traffic, on a typical Ethernet LAN. We demonstrate how to measure and analyze the interarrival time and size of HTTP packets and derive statistical parameters from them. Analytical traffic models are developed based on the measurement results.
