Abstract :
Like holey fibers, segmented cladding fibers are leaky structures. By calculating the leakage losses of two different large-core segmented cladding fiber designs by a combination of radial-effective index method (REIM) and transverse matrix method (TMM), the principle of effective single-mode operation with such fibers is established.
