  • Abstract
Digital beamforming (DBF) techniques improve the performance of communications systems significantly. However, if the communications are strongly jammed in the direction of the transmitted beam, the directional jamming will severely degrade the performance of the systems. In order to solve this problem, the paper proposes a beam hopping (BH) communications scheme. The analysis results of the average SINK performance show that compared with the conventional single beam (SB) and multibeam (MB) communications scheme, the new BH communications scheme is capable of combating the directional jamming efficiently, while fully utilizes the directional gain of the beams of the transmitters and the receivers. Moreover, the BH scheme can reduce the intercept probability of the communications to some degree. Therefore, the BH scheme is a promising communications scheme with a good performance-cost trade-off.
