Abstract :
This paper proposes a heuristic for re-computing the forwarding zone of route request packets for the location-aided routing (LAR) protocol in ad hoc wireless networks. We evaluate the influence of a "multi-step" resizing of the request zone on the LAR protocol performance, and make comparisons with other routing protocols (LAR scheme 1, LAR scheme 2, and promiscuous-dynamic source routing). Simulation results show that an accurate choice of the request zone size and of the number of steps for the resizing is successful in reducing the control overhead and increasing the throughput.
