Abstract :
The paper is motivated by changes experienced in the fields of traffic types and volumes, network structures and market trends; it concentrates on the metro core. Assuming a possible RPR-WDM network architecture, a cost-effective way is proposed for increasing network load without increasing the electrical components of the network nodes, so without increasing dramatically the provider´s capex. Based on flexible optical devices, an automatic logical node reordering process to improve the RPR (resilient packet ring) layer performance is proposed.
