  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Several research communities advocate for collaboration among domain experts. This is need due to the complexity of the problems to solve which requires more than expert, to guarantee reliability and affordability given the constraints. The power systems discussed is proven to be the optimum bench mark system for validating different new computational techniques, modeling issues, handling of uncertainty, cost implication and integration of new and emerging technologies such as information technology, FACTS devices, hybrid systems and advanced controls. This paper discusses the experiences and challenges of building bridges between experts in the engineering and other disciplines such as economics, management and decision support experts. Our experience in building partnerships and crossing boundary between disciplines and the development of new education paradigms in teaching an marketing of power option to students at the university and the interdisciplinary research partnership, electric power networks efficiency and security (EPNES) initiative being funded by NSF and ONR is discussed at panel.
