Abstract :
This is the fourth in a series of papers comparing and contrasting utilization of batteries in standby and cycling applications. In this paper, the management of the charge portion of the operation of lead acid batteries is addressed, since charging poses problems that are specific to the two types of applications. It is in fact the system of which the lead acid battery forms the storage component that engenders the problems that is addressed in order to maximize the life and performance of the battery. Several of the problems specific to the two applications are discussed, together with suggestions regarding how to effect battery charging most efficaciously.
