Abstract :
The paper deals with the effects of the western market on westconnect operations. Participating in the efforts to develop westconnect were the FERC-jurisdictional public utilities, Arizona Public Service Company, El Paso Electric Company, Public Service Company of New Mexico and Tucson Electric Power Company, and the nonjurisdictional participants, salt river project agricultural improvement and power district, the Western Area Power Administration and Southwest Transmission Cooperative, inc. westconnect is designed to manage the operation of virtually all of the transmission assets in the southwestern portion of the United States. This paper overviews the current system operation plans, operation differences under SMD, the western standard market and status.
