Abstract
The paper presents a multivariable voltage and speed controller ensuring global stability of large-scale power systems. The proposed solution is based on a combination of recent results on global stability of large-scale systems with the disturbance attenuation approach. The model used is a new variation on the traditional one and presents several advantages such as its compactness and the fact that all the machines interactions can be explicitly described. The design method consists of decoupling the mechanical and electrical dynamics using nonlinear excitation and valve input. The resulting subsystems are stabilized by auxiliary controls derived from a backstepping procedure. The controller gains are computed in such a way that the global stability of the overall multimachine system is guaranteed. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our solution.
