  • Abstract
This paper describes the construction, principle and analysis of a permanent-magnet (PM) a.c. generator with inverse rotor saliency. By using the inset PM rotor construction, the quadrature-axis flux is enhanced and the voltage regulation of the generator is reduced when it is supplying an isolated load. A coupled circuit and field approach based on a two-dimensional finite element method is used for computing the load characteristic. Very good agreement between the computed and experimental results has been obtained.
