Abstract
In recent years a number of new devices and systems have become available in the electricity industry that perform continuous, online monitoring of key parameters or indicators of the condition of high voltage plant. "Online condition monitoring", as it is known, has the potential to generate significant impact in the areas of condition assessment and asset management strategies. However, these benefits will only be realised when analysis can be performed to extract the meaning of the data provided by the devices and systems. This paper describes the steps TransGrid is taking to effectively implement online condition monitoring, with particular focus on some of the analysis that can be performed on online monitoring information.
