Abstract
Internet has become one of the important communication tools nowadays. Traditional Internet, which is commonly characterized as a best effort service was designed mainly for data communication applications such as file transfer and electronic mail. However, current Internet which is based on IPv4 does not guarantee any specific quality-of-service (QoS) that would be essential for other interactive multimedia applications. Applications such as voice and video, which are normally known as real time traffic, are sensitive to time and packet loss. Thus, IPv6 is introduced to improve or solve the problems that arose from IPv4. QoS in IPv6 also offers differentiated services (DiffServ) that would allow priority scheduling to facilitate the multimedia communications over the Internet. This paper will show how DiffServ could provide QoS for both real time and non real time traffics. The simulation work is done by using software called network simulator (ns2).
