Abstract
In this paper, we propose a local restoration and protection algorithm using LSP tunnels in an MPLS-based network, in which, we propose to add two entries to the label forwarding table, which are the outgoing link status and the backup label. The status of the link is updated periodically, and whenever a failure is locally detected by the neighboring LSRs, the backup label is pushed into the stack of the incoming packet, and the packet will be forwarded over a different interface link. So the new label pushed onto the stack of the packet will force the packet to bypass the faulty link by entering the backup tunnel.
