Abstract :
A Fokker-Planck equation describing the probability density function of the output intensity of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is derived. We show that a quasi-analytical solution can be obtained for arbitrary input statistics enabling the analysis of chain of cascaded EDFAs.
