Abstract :
Floquet-Bloch theory is used to determine the radiation loss of a grating-assisted directional coupler. Also, an analytic formula for the radiation loss is derived. Results from both the Floquet-Bloch theory and the analytic formula are compared with results obtained using coupled mode theory.
