Abstract
This paper describes the development of a sensor for the detection of viruses. The basic detection unit is a capacitance element. The detection scheme uses sense and dummy capacitors and a sense amplifier circuit to compare capacitance. Deposition of sufficient biological material in a sense capacitor alters the sense amplifier output. This promising approach has the potential to more rapidly test for the presence of virus with fewer bioprocessing steps using an IC platform that can be cheaply mass produced.
