Abstract
This paper presents a moment-based method for two-dimensional (2D) edge detection. A quadratic curve (e.g. parabola) is used to fit the image boundary. The edge parameters including the background level, the gray level step along the contour, distance of the edge from the center of the mask, and the orientation of the edge are estimated by computing the moments up to the second order. Experimental results are presented to valid the effectiveness of the proposed method.
