Abstract :
Power electronic controlled loads are extensively used in industry for performance improvement and energy conservation. However, they often produce current harmonics that can interfere with the operation of other sensitive loads and trigger resonances in the local subsystem. These problems can be mitigated by using load group compensators capable of operating as static var compensator (SVC) and active filter simultaneously. This paper discusses the performance of a new per phase switched capacitor based load compensator under transient conditions. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the superior speed of response of the proposed compensator.
