Abstract :
A motor proposed in this paper has a disk-type rotor sandwiched between two disk-type stators and has the capability of both rotation and levitation control. The displacement and rotation along radial directions and axial direction are restricted and controlled by passive bearings and active magnetic bearings respectively. It does not rely on mechanical bearing, so does not require lubrication and can be expected to have longer maintenance-free lifespan. The collective system design, mathematical model, control scheme and simulation results are presented in this paper.
