Abstract :
Learning resource (LR) is difficult to be managed, interchanged and reused in an e-learning system, because different LR has different format or structure and is stored in different location on the Internet. LR users can\´t discover the needed LR conveniently because they don\´t know where it is stored. The authors of this paper define an LR registry and discovery model and implement a learning resource registry and discovery system to solve the problem. The system which is developed based on relative LR specifications and communication protocols stores the standard metadata packaging information and the actual content information of LR and provides query interfaces to LR users so that they can quickly discover the LR they need. To standardize LR, the system also provides a LR processing tool for LR developers to create standardized LR. The core idea of the LR registry and discovery system is "store in different places, but manage in one place; register once, discover anywhere ".
