  • Abstract
Wideband sampling and multirate digital signal processing are considered to be important steps towards the realization of software-defined multistandard mobile terminals. This paper proposes a unified approach to the estimation of ADC dynamic range requirements in the receive path of multistandard mobile terminals based on a wideband-IF sampling topology. In contrast to worst case predictions, usually derived from the superposition of several single-standard interferer/blocker characteristics assuming switchable IF filters, this work is based on a receiver architecture employing a common IF filter for all standards. The paper gives an overview on the derivation of key figures required for dynamic range estimation of UTRA-FDD, GSM and DECT. It is shown how the concept of residual dynamic range estimation allows the design and evaluation of suitable IF filter and ADC transfer characteristics considering dynamic constraints imposed by subsequent signal processing stages. Although the results derived in this work focus on a triple-standard mobile receiver the approach presented is readily extendable to include additional standard specifications.
