Abstract :
The paper presents a new and efficient QAM modem design for a multiple user wireless mobile communication system; it improves the performance of a recently developed nontraditional offset stacked CDMA spread spectrum modulation scheme. The spectrum spreading is performed using orthogonal complementary codes (OCC) in an offset stacked fashion in order to achieve very low multiple access interference (MAI) without sacrificing the data transmission rate. In order to deliver good performance in a fading environment, the one-dimensional PAM signal output by the offset stacked modulator is mapped onto an optimally designed two-dimensional QAM constellation before transmission.
