Abstract
The cellular networks have experienced impressive growth in recent years. The general trend is that the cellular networks should support multiclass services that have diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. Due to the intrinsic scarcity of wireless bandwidth, it is crucial to provide QoS guarantees and at the same time achieve high bandwidth utilization. Moreover, since each class of service has distinct characteristics, an inappropriate resource allocation scheme may benefit some classes of services at the expense of others. Hence, another important issue of supporting multiclass services in wireless and mobile networks is to achieve fairness among all classes. The study in this paper aims at accommodating a maximum number of users and providing acceptable QoS to each class without the compromise of fairness. We define a comprehensive set of QoS metrics and develop an analytical model to derive these QoS performance parameters. Extensive simulations verify the correctness of the analytical model and show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing resource allocation schemes under various traffic scenarios.
