Abstract
We present a performance evaluation of two strategies for transmitting packet data to a group of multicast users over the W-CDMA air interface. In the first scheme, a single common or broadcast channel is used to transmit multicast data over the entire cell, whereas in the second scheme multiple dedicated channels are employed for transmitting to the group. We evaluate the performance of both schemes in terms of the number of users that can be supported by either scheme at a given quality of service defined in terms of a target outage probability.
