Abstract :
Long-wavelength VCSELs and SOAs, inexpensive components compared with DFB LDs and EDFAs, are investigated in short distance optical communication systems with simulations and experiments. 155Onm-VCSELs are suffered from dispersion problem through the conventional SMF, then transmission performance of the VCSEL is improved by converting positive chirp created by VCSEL into negative chirp using SOA. We also study the effect of the role of SOA on metro networks.
