Abstract
In this paper, temperature/vegetation index relation is used to evaluate soil moisture conditions by 8 km, 10-day composite AVHRR data set. To define the T/NDVI slope, window size and automatic linear fit are studied. Then T/NDVI slope is analyzed spatially and temporally. Results show that soil moisture is closely correlated to the T/NDVI slope. A new approach is proposed to estimate soil moisture availability by T/NDVI slope and T/NDVI space. Finally, soil moisture and drought distribution maps are produced in China.
