Abstract
We propose a region-of-interest (ROI) coding scheme for multispectral images. This method supports arbitrary region selection for ROI, and is operated on the wavelet transform domain. When a user selects an arbitrary region of multispectral image on a Web browser, the region can be transmitted with the most priority and the minimum data. The proposed method is appropriate to applications that have to receive a prompt reply through the network. The simulation results have shown us that the proposed method has better performance in terms of the reconstructed image quality and the transmitted bit rates. Because the system has the property of progressive transmission, it can be successfully applied to a large number of application areas.
