Abstract :
A simple technique for teaching undergraduate power system harmonics analysis has been developed to model stochastic power system harmonics caused by single-phase variable-speed DC drives (VSD). This paper implements a time-domain computer simulation model, based on the trapezoidal method of integration, to calculate the load current and the source line distortion produced by a converter in VSD. Sensitivity studies are then conducted to determine the key factors affecting the harmonic characteristics of VSDs.
