  • Abstract
This paper presents recent results on the production of POWER solar cells-a transparent crystalline silicon solar cell with a unique perforation obtained by mechanical texturing. In the first part, the POWER solar cell design and its various applications are introduced. This is followed by the description of the industrial processing sequence and of the progress made in enhancing the solar cell efficiency in the industrial production of this device at sunways. In the remaining part the efforts undertaken at sunways to minimise the risk for hot spot formation in POWER are described. With the help of reverse currents and the determination of peak temperatures, the sources of potential hot spots were located and identified. With this knowledge, hot spots in POWER cells have been significantly reduced.
