Abstract
Durasheet is a new high durability diaphragm sheet (DS) developed by NPC incorporated to achieve high laminator uptime and decrease running costs. DS failure results from the higher density of double carbon bonds in silicone rubber. The process heat and the out-gassing of peroxide from the EVA easily break the double bonds and the DS is hardened and cracked. To overcome this disadvantage NPC has selected the best grade of butyl rubber and combined it with special additives to launch this novel product. In this paper, we compare the physical properties of Durasheet and silicone rubber diaphragms; present durability data for Durasheet under real production conditions and estimate the reduction in Cost of Ownership resulting from its use.
