Abstract
During the last decade advances in communication technologies, computer system applications and embedded computational functionality have resulted the increased complexity of intelligent transport systems (ITS). Although individual systems have been continuously developed for addressing different transport issues (e.g. safety, road network capacity, vehicle efficiency, etc), an approach that enables deployment of integrated systems has not been investigated comprehensively. The aim of this paper is to detail such an approach as port of the Foresight Vehicle programme in the UK. The developed methodology explains the process of integration throughout different stages of the design/development, ranging from user requirements elicitation to physical integration of different systems.
