Abstract :
A novel ad hoc-cellular (A-Cell) wireless network architecture consisting of mobile and fixed/conventional base stations and developed efficient mechanisms for routing, DCA, scheduling and CAC is recently devised. We anticipate that such network architectures and schemes will play a vital role in enhancing future cellular communications. In this paper, we devise a new scheme for channel assignment based on optimal edge coloring, namely, A-cell channel assignment (ACA). ACA is capable of utilizing a limited number of channels to enhance spatial reuse. In addition, it may be used in conjunction with ad hoc, UTRA FDD, UTRA TDD, and WiFi networks, among others. To the author´s best knowledge, this is the first time that channel assignment is addressed in the context of multihop cellular networks. Extending coverage, enhancing spatial reuse, and conserving energy are the main objectives of this paper.
