Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the method of suppression of vibration for the rectangular thin elastic plate and the cylindrical shell. Both are subjected to the random disturbance, and the vibration suppression controllers are proposed by using piezoelectric elements. In this method, piezoelectric elements are bonded to surfaces of the plate and the cylindrical shell as control and sensing devices. Employing the finite-dimensional approximation to the dynamics of the plate and cylindrical shell, the state-space representation is obtained to derive LQG controller and H/sup /spl infin//controller. Finally, numerical simulation studies are performed to show the effect of the controller.
