Abstract :
This paper describes single-sided linear induction motors (SLIMs) with a short primary member. In this study, we propose partial adoption of wound secondary members in the SLIMs. Adopting this scheme in sections where the high driving or braking force is required, desirable performance can be obtained by controlling secondary coil resistances. In the proposed scheme, various transient phenomena appear when the primary crosses the boundary between the solid-plate secondary section and the wound secondary one. Thus, we investigate the transient phenomena at the boundary and suggest those make characteristics of the machine worse and running performance unstable. Finally, we propose a novel boundary structure, which yields stable transient performances.
