Abstract
Generalised electromagnetic periodic structures are studied and it is demonstrated that negative refraction is an inherent property associated with almost all periodic structures. The dispersion analysis is given using the entire structure rather than unit cell analysis, and thereby the spatial harmonics effects are taken into consideration. EBG like structures are taken for our study. Theoretical predictions are validated with simulation results. Measurements have also been carried out and it is observed that the simulation results are in good agreement with experimental results. A prism structure consisting of wires and a Teflon prism was used for measurement studies.
