Abstract
This work presents a new method to realise directive base station antennas by incorporating cylindrical electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures. These structures behave as partially reflecting surfaces (PRS) and significantly enhance the directivity of simple radiating sources. A cylindrical antenna that operates at 2.4 GHz and is fed by a dipole was constructed to illustrate the design methodology.
