Abstract :
In this paper, we explore fundamental limitations on the use of two-dimensional periodic materials. Namely, we focus on the assumption of strictly two-dimensional fields within the material and quantifying the width of the bandgap region. The relevance of these limitations is determined for an application of the periodic material for high-Q filtering.
