Abstract
Dielectric resonators (DRs) are used in many applications such as microwave devices and antennas. In order to design a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA), the resonant frequencies and the corresponding field patterns of modes are important. We derive an expression for the resonant frequencies of elliptical cylinder DRs (ECDRs) and their corresponding field patterns. We use the Rayleigh-Ritz procedure (Bulley, R.M. and Davies, B.J., IEEE Trans. Microwave Theory and Techniques, vol.17, p.440-6,1969) for finding the cross-section field patterns of the dielectric elliptical structure and the cut off frequencies of the structure.
