Abstract :
A novel microstrip triangular antenna with photonic bandgap (PBG) structure is proposed. The PBG structure is two-dimensional, with only one or more unit lattice, and a circular hole cell is etched in the ground. The proposed antenna achieves a 2:1 standing wave ratio bandwidth of >21%. Measured results are compared with simulations and good agreement is observed. Results from the experiment show that the antenna provides bandwidth improvement of about 84 MHz at a frequency around 2.4 GHz. Thus, it can potentially be used for next generation mobile communication.
