Abstract
Software modeling of relays and a new approach for conducting protection studies are presented. The need for relay models, the procedures for modeling relays and conducting protection studies using these models are briefly outlined. A new paradigm based on client-server approach for protection studies using relay models is presented. The implementation of the interfaces required for this paradigm is described. The future improvements on these interfaces are also outlined. It is expected that the proposed paradigm will have significant impact on the way software models are used for protection studies.
