Abstract :
An up-rated gas-insulated switchgear (GIS)- product in the voltage range up to 170 kV with 4000 A continuous current and 63 kA short circuit current is now available, which in these ratings is the most compact design in this market segment. This recently developed GIS is based on the existing GIS type ELK-0 (which is established in the market since more than 12 years) and fully type-tested at an independent power laboratory. After the successful introduction into the market with the first delivery in year 2002, it is now running as a heavy rating product within the ABB-portfolio and has been delivered several times in the beginning of the year 2003.
