Abstract :
The paper introduces the definition and algorithm of correlation dimension for discrete time series from the point of view of engineering application, reveals the inherence relation between the correlation dimension and complexity of dynamic system via calculating the correlation dimensions of three simulating signals, and researches the changing rules of the correlation dimension in the whole course of tool wear through experiments. The results show that along with the increase of tool wear the correlation dimension of the cutting force signal assume the falling trend, and the tool wear monitoring can be realize effectively according to the changing characteristic of correlation dimensions of cutting force signal.
