Abstract :
We consider the problem of dynamically provisioning an end-to-end optical path that spans multiple wavelength-routed WDM optical domains. We examine the associated algorithms for intra- and inter domain light path computation and wavelength assignment. We particularly study two different schemes: combined shortest path first (combSPF) and the multidomain shortest path first (MSPF) under two states: the fixed, and the adaptive link cost metrics. We analyze the blocking ratio of requests for optical paths consisting of a number of all-optical networking domains. To perform quantitative studies, a discrete event simulation tool based on the model described was implemented. We conduct extensive simulation experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.
