Abstract :
Complete magneto-optical mode conversion was attained in waveguide of diluted magnetic semiconductor Cd/sub 1-x/Mn/sub x/Te. The Cd/sub 1-x/Mn/sub x/Te waveguide with graded-refractive-index layers showed optical loss below 1 dB/cm, and high magneto-optical figure-of-merit, 200 deg/dB/kG at /spl lambda/ = 730 nm.
