Abstract
Considerable efforts are currently being made to develop new schemes for the generation of ultrashort X-ray pulses, in particular pulses of sufficiently short wavelength to enable resolution of the atomic structure of matter. With such pulses at our disposal we can perform measurements with sufficiently high temporal and spatial resolution to record ultrafast changes in the atomic configuration and measure transient structures.
