Abstract
In this paper, we propose a generalization of the 802.1X architecture using an extensible authentication protocol (EAP) for more general signaling data transport purposes. We develop EAP/SIG, an effective and easy-to-implement generic signaling protocol for future wireless LANs. We discuss the advantages of this approach and show how it can be implemented.
