Abstract :
We propose a multiuser wireless access scheme based on a self spread-spectrum (SE-SS) technique, where the spreading sequence is obtained as a function of past transmitted bits. At the receiver, an improved detector refines the data estimation with a soft estimate of the data-dependent spreading chips, while a successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme reduces the multiuser access interference. Performance is evaluated in an uplink UMTS transmission and we show that SE-SS with SIC and improved detection outperforms significantly classical CDMA, thus being a promising technique for high-rate transmissions of the next generation of broadband multiuser communications.
