Abstract :
An important component of a mobile ad hoc network is the routing algorithm. We analyze the efficiency of the fisheye state routing (FSR) protocol in a highly mobile ad hoc network where the total network capacity is varied. We investigate the importance of the FSR parameter settings on the network capacity available for user traffic, and on the accessibility a node has to other nodes in the network. From our simulation, we conclude that the fisheye technique is efficient in the studied networks and that it is crucial to choose the protocol´s parameter settings based on the actual network capacity. If the network capacity varies, the parameter settings should be optimized for the lowest network capacity that might occur. If this is not done, it can result in huge losses in user capacity. Through adapting the FSR parameter settings when the network environment changes, higher user capacity can be achieved.
