Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a comprehensive request processing approach at the proxy server to preprocess media requests with the goal of quality of service (QoS) enhancement. This approach integrates distributed admission control, batching and prefix caching schemes. A proxy assistant is designed to realize the proxy site request processing approach. Also, to fully utilize prefix caching, we allow a request to stay at the proxy to wait for the disk bandwidth of the media server to become available before the cached contents are exhausted. Performance studies show that our request processing approach significantly improves the admission rates, and response time
